Why did you choose Ohio State University for your graduate studies?

I attended NC State University for my BS and MS. When it was time to pick a school for my PhD, I asked my advisors to recommend faculty at different schools that excelled in dairy nutrition. Ohio State and its dairy nutrition faculty came highly recommended. I visited the campus, farms and faculty and decided it was the place I wanted to be.

Is it easy to get financial aid at Ohio State?

I had no problems getting financial aid. A basic graduate application is all that is required to request financial aid.

what do you like about Columbus?

All the roads are perpendicular to each other, and if you think one is going to go somewhere, it probably is. So it is pretty easy to get around in Columbus. There are also plenty of restaurants and clubs, both downtown and in the campus area. There's a Kroger on every corner, and the cost of living is also relatively cheap, especially compared to some other college towns I've been in.

Why did you choose Ohio State University for your graduate studies?

I was interested in the Meat Science graduate program and Dr. Ockerman, my advisor, is well-known in the Meat Science area thus I chose Ohio State University. Besides, Dr. Ockerman travels throughout the world and he understands the adjustments that have to be made by foreign students as they come to the United States.

Is it easy to get financial aid at Ohio State?

Fellowships through Ohio State are very competitive. However, research assistantships for qualified students are available through the department, and are usually not difficult to get.

what do you like about Columbus?

The University is close to an international airport. There are many Oriental grocery stores where a student can purchase goods from home and have familiar food in the U. S. The people are friendly, and Columbus is easy to find your way around.

Why did you choose Ohio State University for your graduate studies?

I chose Ohio State for two reasons. First, I earned my BS here and I liked the diversity. The second was positive input from Alumni.

Good students get funded. If you are a strong student with a good work ethic and good personality, you will be welcome here. It was easy for me to get financial aid.

The best part of living in OHIO is that if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes and it will change.

Why did you choose Ohio State University for your graduate studies?

I chose Ohio State for Graduate school because of the persistance of my
advisor while I was an undergraduate and the opportunities that would allow
me my own projects.

Any comment on the research facilities in Animal Science?

We have a working meat lab that allows students the opportunity to have hands-on experiences in meat processing. This is a valuable resource and prepares both undergraduates and graduate students for careers in the meat industry.

Is it easy to get financial aid at Ohio State?

Financial aid in the Animal Sciences Department is part of the application
process for admission. I have been fortunate that all of my financial aid
has been handled through the department.

What do you do as a graduate assistant?

As a graduate assistant I have had the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for several classes including the introductory Animal Sciences class, and the processed meats class. As a research assistant I have focused on food safety in meat products and the dissemination of food safety information to meat processors all over the United States.

what do you like about Columbus?

The shopping is good. There are a wide variety of stores from outlets to high end department store. And once you figure out the roads, it's pretty easy to get around. There are always alternative routes to get to where you are going.
