What
do you like about Ohio State?
I
thought OSU would be a lot bigger. You hear about a place
where 50,000 students get together and you think it's a day's
walk from end to end. Most things are centrally located, though,
and it ends up feeling a lot more close-knit than I anticipated.
Also, coming from Northwestern, (with about 7000 undergrads)
I was again expecting a big change. The campus is nice, and
I enjoy being here. I think the thing I enjoy most about Ohio
State is the people. I've met so many friendly people just
in my department, and I loved this opportunity today to step
outside of my realm for a little and meet some people from
other walks of life.

Why
did you choose Ohio State University for your graduate studies?
First,
I chose to attend grad school at OSU because of its prestige
in my chosen field of endeavor: paleontology. Some of the
wisest minds and brightest new researchers in the discipline
are here in OSU's geology department.
Also,
my advisor, Prof. Matt Saltzman, is a down-to-earth, friendly
guy who happens to have research interests that I find fascinating
and is helping me to expand my knowledge of the Earth and
make a transition into paleontology from my background in
geochemistry. The opportunity to teach and to do geological
field work were two other important traits that brought me
to OSU.

Is
it easy to find financial aid at Ohio State?
Yes.
I am on a GTA. I have a monthly stipend, and for that I get
to teach GS 100 lab sections, which I enjoy thoroughly.

what
do you like about Columbus?
My
first impression of Columbus, when I visited the campus, was
that it was a "deceptively large" city. Seriously,
when I had thought of Columbus, I didn't think it would be
that big. And coming from an undergrad stint at Northwestern,
just an el-ride from Chicago, I was anticipating a shift to
a much smaller city. Columbus has proved otherwise, and I
enjoy finding new places to, eat, see shows, or just hang
out with friends. I've even been to a Crew game!

Why
did you choose Ohio State University for your graduate studies?
I
chose Ohio State University for grad school because my department
is ranked in the top ten departments for the field of Geology
I am in. Also the advisors and faculty I work with are world
renown in their areas, also the GTA stipend was the most out
of all the schools I applied to.

what
do you like about Columbus?
I
like several things about Columbus, its a large diverse city
that has lots of cultural variance. Also the public transportation
system is nice, I really like the deal OSU and COTA(Central
Ohio Transit Authority) have, where its free for students.
I also like the fact that OSU is not the only thing in the
city so its not your typical "College Town".
