Why did you choose Ohio State University for your graduate studies?

I chose to attend The Ohio State University because it is a nationally known and well-respected college. When you say that you're a "BUCKEYE" everyone listens. Another reason I decided to attend Ohio State is because they offered my program as an accelerated program. I was able to take a year off work and complete my course of study in one academic year.

What do you like about your graduate program at Ohio State?

I am in the Special Education graduate program. Something that I liked about my graduate program at The Ohio State University was the professors. All of them were willing to work with the students and make reasonable accommodations whenever possible. Many professors had office hours that were accommodating, but if I needed additional help in an area or on a project, it was nothing for them to come in on an "off day" to help me or extend their home phone number. They also encouraged you to think for yourself, express creativity, and nothing but your best was acceptable. They challenged you in the classroom and welcomed your input.

Any comment on the Research facilities, teaching, and opportunities at Ohio State?

The research facilities here at Ohio State University are outstading! There are a variety of databases from which I could choose. The one that I used most often was ERIC. It is user friendly and can be used anywhere! When I would go home on the weekends, I was able to use it. They even went so far as to have some of the readings as downloadable! which ment that if I didn't want to go to the library.... I didn't have to! It was GREAT!

What do you like about Columbus?

Something that I liked about Columbus was the shopping! There are so many boutiques and other specialty shops around. Anything that you wanted, needed, or thought you needed, you were able to find; and they were close by. You are able to find just about anything you need if you go for a walk up and down High Street. If you are unable to find what you want on High Street, then many other stores were within 15 minutes from the campus.

What has been your experience in obtaining financial aid?

In obtaining financial aid, I was highly successful. The staff was very well informed and offered superb advice. They were prompt and efficient with their responses to my questions.

Why did you choose Ohio State University for your graduate studies?

I attended Ohio State as an undergraduate and knew what a fantastic institution it was. What I didn't know, however, was that they had the #2 Counselor Education program in the country. When I started looking at different school counseling programs, I was pleasantly surprised to see that one of the best in the country was in my own backyard. I knew then and there that Ohio State was the place for me!

What do you like about your graduate program at Ohio State?

Everything! We have the most amazing faculty. They are extremely committed to the students and have a personal relationship with all of us. Additionally, they are well known scholars in their fields and do all kinds of interesting research. Our program is also wonderful because it fosters such a sense of purpose and togetherness among the students. We all know and spend time together outside of class because our program indirectly builds amazing bonds and friendships.

What has been your experience in obtaining financial aid?

In my current graduate assistantship, I work in the Office of Academic Affairs. I am working on two different university awards: The Alumni Awards for Distinguished Teaching and The University Departmental Teaching Excellence Awards. I provide administrative support and help publicize and organize the awards. It has been an amazing experience in which my supervisor has given me a great deal of autonomy, as well as a diverse experience and a place to grow. Most of all, I think that working in an administrative office has given me a greater appreciation for what it takes to run the university.

What do you like about Columbus?

Columbus is a great city to live in. I feel like you have all of the advantages of a metropolitan area, such as great restaurants, cultural events, and interesting people, but without any of the traffic or headaches associated with those places :) I also love how the city rallies around Ohio State! It's amazing to live in a city that has the feel of a "college town."

What do you study? What is your specialization?

I am studying school counseling through the Counselor Education Program. My program is two years long and gives me the opportunity to have a supervised practicum and internship in the Columbus Public School District. I am currently working at Linden-McKinley High School in Columbus for my year long internship. It is a challenging, yet amazing experience that is preparing me for my future. .............................................................................................................

Ohio State is a great place to attend graduate school; the opportunities are endless! Between working with dedicated faculty, having an internship, taking classes on a beautiful campus, meeting interesting people from all over the world, and having the opportunity to explore an up and coming city, what more could a student ask for? GO BUCKS!

Why did you choose Ohio State University for your graduate studies?

Ohio State has some of the leading scholars in my field and so to be offered to be advised by one of these individuals was a great opportunity to develop as a scholar myself.

The diversity of the graduate students on the program, the scope for selection of classes for your program and the quality of the faculty within the department.

Any comment on the Research facilities, teaching, and opportunities at Ohio State?

My field of study is Sport & Exercise Education. It has its own technology lab which has been great for my research. I have also had the opportunity to teach a variety of classes within my major area. In my second year I was also given the opportunity to work with local teachers on a federal grant which has given me an insight into working in American schools.

What do you like about Columbus?

Columbus is clean and spacious and has a variety of entertainment for people of all ages. The housing and price of living is also very reasonable.

I have been very fortunate to date in receiving a substantial amount of scholarship awards from the College of Education which has supported my research.
